What is a Learning Disability Partnership Board?
- In 2001 the Government published a report about people with learning disabilities called ‘Valuing People‘
- The government said that it is important for people with learning disabilities to have the right to a good quality of life
- The Government set up Partnership Boards to help people with learning disabilities have their say
What is the Bromley Learning Disability Partnership Board?
The Bromley Learning Disability Partnership Board is:
- A group that meets together four times a year at the Civic Centre in Bromley
- A group made up of people with learning disabilities, carers, officers from health and social care and voluntary organizations
- A meeting that aims to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities
- A meeting that encourages all presenters and reports to use accessible, jargon free, language as much as possible
- We have workshops in the morning and a business agenda in the afternoon
- The Board wants people to be able to get a job, have their own home, have better health and be able to see their friends
- We can make sure your voice is heard. This includes telling the important people when something isn’t working.
The Bromley Learning Disability Partnership Board Co-Chairs
- The Bromley Learning Disability Partnership Board has 2 Co – Chairs: David Barnett and Councillor Judi Ellis
- Their role is to make sure that the Bromley Learning Disability Partnership Board has influence at a strategic level
- It is also their role to make sure that the Bromley Learning Disability Partnership Board is representative and that people’s voices are heard

Accessible Meetings
Bromley Mencap has dedicated staff to help support people with a learning disability at Bromley Learning Disability Partnership Board meetings. We make sure people have enough time to be involved properly.
We do this by;
- supporting our members with learning disabilities
- making sure that people with learning disabilities are given the opportunity to speak up
- making sure people have the necessary information for each meeting such as the minutes of the last meeting, the agenda and presentations
- making sure that information is in easy read and accessible
- making sure that presentations on the day of the Partnership Board are accessible
- consulting people about changes
