Following a vote at the 1969 AGM, a fundraising committee was established to pay for, and equip a suitable property to be Bromley’s first respite/residential care home for children with learning disabilities. Centre 70 was adopted as the name of the appeal, and within 3 years enough money was raised to buy a large house in Rodway Road, Bromley. It was officially opened in September 1973 by Sir Keith Joseph, Secretary of State for Social Services.
