Bromley Mencap leadership
Introducing the leadership team at Bromley Mencap.

Steve Barnes (Chief Executive Officer)
I joined Bromley Mencap in 2020 as Deputy Chief Executive. Prior to Bromley Mencap, I worked as Director of St John’s Hospice, having previously been the Head of Joint Commissioning for Older People and Physical Disability in Westminster.
I have worked in health and social care organisations throughout my whole career, having qualified as Social Worker in 1994. My first permanent position was for Nottinghamshire Mencap, where I worked as a support worker in a group home for adults with learning disabilities.
I have served as a trustee on the boards of two charities, Age UK Hounslow, and Dementia Concern.

Caroline Stone (Director of Services)
My career started in a financial institution and when I left work to start a family, I was a business development manager.
Seeking a role which would work around my young family, I joined Bromley Mencap in 2001 to support their social and leisure activities for the 50th anniversary year. From there I took on various part time roles, and in 2008 my first time role was to co-ordinate the Summer Scheme for disabled young people. I then went on to do family support work for both disabled children and adults and their families/carers, started a successful buddying project for young people and began to support the development of our new day services. In 2017 I was seconded from my role as Family Services Co-ordinator to the role of Development Manager and oversaw the expansion of our successful Day Opportunities Project and the start-up of the Lodge Community Hub. I also became the CQC Registered Manager for our Domiciliary Care Agency.
In 2019 I became the Head of Service for Children and Adults, which oversees the broad range of projects the organisation offers to all disabled children and adults and their families and carers in Bromley.

Matt Catchpole (Employment Services Manager)
I joined Bromley Mencap in May 2023, and prior to taking up the role of Employment Services Manager, I have had the pleasure of working across public, private, and voluntary sector services for over 20 years.
Starting my career with the National Autistic Society, for 6 years I supported teams to develop person centred programmes across services including day centres, residential and supported living housing.
I moved into Learning disability day services at the Local Authority, where I was part of a small team who set up a bespoke Autism support service, managing the team to provide specialised support to enable independence, opportunities, and build skills to employment.
Moving into development role in the Technology Enabled Care (TEC) sector, I worked across adult integrated commissioned health and care services. Providing efficient levels of support and care through technology to help streamline pathways, reduce risks, and enable individuals to manage their care and support needs.
Having grown up in Bromley I was pleased to use my Project management skills, joining Bromley’s Local Authority SEND programme team. Key responsibility was supporting the creation of Bromley’s first all-age Autism Strategy, grow partnership working and improve access to services, in partnership with health, care and voluntary sector services.
