Advice and support

Free advice, support and information that will help you find solutions and move your life forward.

Helpline

Our helpline provides information and support for disabled people, their families and carers on a wide range of issues.

Need to know
  • Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm on 020 8466 0790.

Cost of Living project

Support for people with money challenges.  Free advice including help with energy costs, debts, budgeting and benefit claims.

Young carers support

Support for young people who care for others. We support Young Carers aged 4 to 19 to manage caring relationships whilst enjoying childhood. Provided as part of Bromley Well.

  • Opportunities to meet with other young carers.
  • Have fun, discuss any worries and try out new activities.
  • Workshops to help develop your practical life skills.

Support for adults with learning disabilities

This Bromley Well service supports people with learning disabilities and learning difficulties. You must be aged 18 years and over and not have other services from Bromley Council.

Need to know
  • Available to all living in Bromley.
  • Coping strategies to live independently.
  • Help with form filling, phone calls, applications and more.

Support for adults with physical disabilities

This Bromley Well service supports people with physical disabilities. You must be aged 18 years and over and not have other services from Bromley Council.

  • Help with form filling, phone calls, applications and more.

Mutual carers support

Support for people in mutually caring relationships when there is one person aged 55 and over, with a disabled adult son/daughter/sibling living at home. Provided as part of Bromley Well.

  • Help to remain independent.
  • Get emotional support and learn new skills.
  • Attend support groups and workshops.

Adult day services

Enjoy a wide variety of activities or get support to improve the quality of your life.

Day opportunities

Join a fun and varied programme of activities each weekday. Meet with friends, try new activities and learn new skills.

Need to know
  • Runs on weekdays at our Eden Park and Cotmandene Day Opportunities Centres.
  • Activities include cooking, gardening, computer skills, and much more.
  • Sessions help to develop life skills and independence.

Vocational training

Training to provide disabled adults with the skills they need to move on to paid employment in three key areas – horticulture, catering, and cycle maintenance.

Need to know
  • Opportunities to learn new skills to help support employment opportunities.
  • A mix of classroom learning and practical work.
  • Training held at The Lodge community hub in Norman Park, Bromley.

Adult leisure services

Opportunities for disabled people to enjoy social and leisure activities.

Out-of Hours-Activities

Get involved in activities during the evenings and weekends including discos, coach trips and cooking sessions.

Walking and Cycling Club

Join the Walking and Cycling Club to enjoy coach trips, cycling sessions and walking tours for disabled adults.

Hire bikes

Hire bikes and trikes from our community hub in Norman Park, Bromley. 

Need to know
  • Book and borrow bikes, trikes, and helmets.
  • Cycle a one-mile circuit around the park in a safe environment.
  • Free of charge.

Keep fit classes

Attend our popular keep fit class, which run from the Walnuts Leisure Centre in Orpington. You must be a member of Bromley Mencap to join.

Support services for children, young people, carers and families that help change lives for the better.

Short Breaks

Daytime community support, childminding and buddying support service for disabled children and young people.

Need to know
  • Opportunities for disabled children and young people to have enjoyable experiences away from their primary carers.
  • Providing parents and carers with a valuable break from their caring responsibilities.
  • Help to improve social inclusion and personal and social development.

Specialist Autism Family Support Service

Provides short-term intensive support to families with children who have social and communication difficulties and who have more complex needs.

Employment, training and jobs

Training for work and on the job experience that builds your skills and confidence and increases your chance of getting a job.

Employment advice service

Our staff offer support to people with learning disabilities, people with physical disabilities, and people with long term health conditions to find volunteering, work placements and employment. Part of Bromley Well.

Need to know
  • Workshops to assist with finding a job or accessing volunteering opportunities.
  • One to one advice & meetings with an advisor.
  • Assistance with CV writing and job applications.

Job Brokerage Service

This service worked with and supported disabled residents of Bromley to secure paid employment.  Funding for the service ended in March 2026

Need to know
  • Working with disabled residents of Bromley to secure paid employment.
  • Personalised 1:1 support to residents while engaging with employers.
  • Support to help you move forward into work.

Supported internships

Support for students with learning disabilities, including those with complex needs, to source internship placements. This is delivered in partnership with London South East Colleges at Bromley College and Bexley College.

Need to know
  • Providing support to help a young person move from college into employment.
  • Sourcing placements in line with the interests of students.
  • Placements include retail, admin, child care, maintenance, libraries, supermarkets, catering and horticulture.

Job coaching

Job coaching support for disabled people in the borough of Bromley and surrounding areas. Help with retaining secured paid employment.

Need to know
  • Provision of a trained job coach to support with employment matters.
  • Additional support for job related issues – eg. performance or redundancy.
  • Application for support via Department for Work and Pensions Access to Work funding.

Grounds4Growth Social Enterprise Project

Grounds4Growth gives disabled adults real work experience through a community market stall offering barista-style coffee, seasonal plants grown at The Lodge, and information about refurbished bikes for sale.
