History

We were set up as a learning disability organisation in 1951 by a group of parents with children who had learning disabilities. We started to campaign at a local level.  The first formal meeting of what was then The Bromley Society took place on 21st April 1951.

2011 saw the merger of Bromley Mencap and Bromley Scope, leading to us becoming a wider disability organisation, campaigning and providing services for people with physical disabilities and learning disabilities.

In October 2021, we expanded our Day Opportunities programme for adults with learning disabilities, opening the Cotmandene Centre in St Paul’s Cray.  The centre provides services to 30 adults a week.

We opened our new building at Station Road in Bromley in 2022, however the major development for us was the opening as an Accredited Training Centre in September 2023.
