Sam’s Story*
Sam is a disabled teenager who, with support from Bromley Mencap’s Short Breaks Service, has been able to enjoy regular care and the help of a Buddy to get out into the community. This year, Sam took part in a two-week work placement at a national radio broadcaster. Thanks to his Buddy, he was able to travel safely and independently – something his family couldn’t have managed alone.
The placement was such a success that Sam has even been invited back to volunteer in the future. His mum shared “I’m so proud of Sam. The Buddy really helped build his confidence and independence. Without this support, he couldn’t have taken part.”
