As Learning Disability Week begins, we are thrilled to celebrate the incredible success story of MF, one of our candidates supported by the Job Brokerage Service.
When MF first accessed our services, he had lost all confidence due to the challenges of coping during the lockdowns. He became increasingly isolated and withdrawn, feeling unable to leave his home for over two years. The idea of traveling independently and finding employment seemed out of reach.
Our employment consultant met with MF several times on a one-to-one basis, accompanying him to the Brokerage Job Club and encouraging him to join new social activities run by Bromley Mencap. As MF’s confidence grew, he began using public transport independently and even started providing peer support to others at the Job Club.
A job opportunity was identified at CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm. Bromley Mencap secured a 3-month paid work placement for MF at CBRE’s head office in London and arranged a travel buddy and job coach support. MF worked front of house, greeting customers and clients, and also assisted in the busy post room, delivering parcels and letters throughout the building’s nine floors.
MF’s confidence soared in his new role, so much so that he now works independently without any support from his job coach and no longer needs assistance with commuting. MF has excelled in his placement, eagerly learning new tasks and was recently voted Employee of the Month (pictured with his award).
The Brokerage service is currently negotiating to secure a permanent contract for MF, either at CBRE’s London office or one of their locations closer to Bromley.
MF expressed that the support he received was excellent and helped him “get back on his feet.” His mother added, “I haven’t seen him this happy before; there has been an unbelievable change in his circumstances.”
