A father and son taking on 75km together
Matt has worked at Bromley Mencap for three years and regularly commutes to work by bike, fitting his love of cycling into the working week.
It’s a passion he has passed on to his 17-year-old son, Jamie, who took up cycling at a young age. Jamie joined local Mini and Junior sessions with Bigfoot Cycling and enjoyed riding laps at Herne Hill Velodrome.
Matt is no stranger to a cycling challenge, having previously completed 100-mile fundraising rides in London and Surrey. But our Tour de Bromley & Lewisham will be particularly special, as it will be Jamie’s first big ride and the first major cycling challenge they have taken on together.
For Matt, it’s something he has been looking forward to for many years. After taking his sons to watch the Tour de France when they were young, he hoped that one day they would be able to take on a big ride together.
“I’ve looked forward to the boys growing up and one day cycling together. To finally do it for our 75th anniversary, for a cause I’m fully invested in every day, means the world.”
Jamie, meanwhile, may have slightly different priorities:
“It’s nice to try and help the people Dad works with, and I’m really looking forward to dropping my dad on the climbs!”
On 1 October, Matt and Jamie will line up together for our 75km Tour de Bromley & Lewisham, raising money as part of Bromley Mencap’s 75th anniversary.
