Statement on the Welfare Reform Vote

Jul 2, 2025

We’re disappointed that the government’s welfare reforms have now passed. But your voices did make a difference.

Just last week, we submitted a co-produced response to the government consultation, developed with disabled people, family carers, and frontline staff. Their lived experience and insight helped strengthen the national pushback — and contributed to key concessions:

  • Existing PIP claimants are protected – new rules apply only to new applicants from November 2026

  • Current recipients of the UC health element will retain the full amount

  • A PIP assessment review, co-produced with disabled people, will now be carried out

These changes show that when our community speaks up, we can influence national policy.

We remain committed to holding the government to account and fighting for a fairer, more inclusive system.

We have produced an easy-read statement here.
