Short Breaks

Being a carer can be physically and emotionally challenging, and it’s important parents/carers have the opportunity to take a break from their caring role.

The Short Breaks Service provides respite to families of disabled children and young people aged 0-25 years. It aims to offer them enjoyable experiences away from their primary carers, supporting their social inclusion as well as their personal and social development. Bromley Mencap offers three Short Breaks Services:

· Community Support from workers to support children and young people with disabilities to access their local communities and/or support to parents/carers in the family home to carry out day to day activities

· Buddying support by young people to support disabled young people (14+) to access their local communities

· Childminding for children with mild to moderate disabilities including children that need one to one support

· Saturday Clubs to encourage social opportunities and independence skills for children in a fun and enjoyable environment.

This summer, the Short Breaks Service will also be:

· Opening their new Summer Holiday Clubs at Riverside Phoenix in Bromley. You can download the flyer here.

· Hosting Coffee Mornings for parents and carers of children with SEND aged 0-5 together with the London Borough of Bromley Early Years Inclusion team. You can download the flyer here.
