Employment, training and jobs

Training for work and on the job experience that builds your skills and confidence and increases your chance of getting a job.

Bromley Mencap’s Education and Employment Service provides training and support for disabled people to secure paid employment opportunities.

Employment advice service

Our staff offer support to people with learning disabilities, people with physical disabilities, and people with long term health conditions to find volunteering, work placements and employment. Part of Bromley Well.

Need to know
  • Workshops to assist with finding a job or accessing volunteering opportunities.
  • One to one advice & meetings with an advisor.
  • Assistance with CV writing and job applications.

Job Brokerage Service

This service worked with and supported disabled residents of Bromley to secure paid employment.  Funding for the service ended in March 2026

Need to know
  • Working with disabled residents of Bromley to secure paid employment.
  • Personalised 1:1 support to residents while engaging with employers.
  • Support to help you move forward into work.

Supported internships

Support for students with learning disabilities, including those with complex needs, to source internship placements. This is delivered in partnership with London South East Colleges at Bromley College and Bexley College.

Need to know
  • Providing support to help a young person move from college into employment.
  • Sourcing placements in line with the interests of students.
  • Placements include retail, admin, child care, maintenance, libraries, supermarkets, catering and horticulture.

Job coaching

Job coaching support for disabled people in the borough of Bromley and surrounding areas. Help with retaining secured paid employment.

Need to know
  • Provision of a trained job coach to support with employment matters.
  • Additional support for job related issues – eg. performance or redundancy.
  • Application for support via Department for Work and Pensions Access to Work funding.

Vocational training

Training to provide disabled adults with the skills they need to move on to paid employment in three key areas – horticulture, catering, and cycle maintenance.

Need to know
  • Opportunities to learn new skills to help support employment opportunities.
  • A mix of classroom learning and practical work.
  • Training held at The Lodge community hub in Norman Park, Bromley.

Grounds4Growth Social Enterprise Project

Grounds4Growth gives disabled adults real work experience through a community market stall offering barista-style coffee, seasonal plants grown at The Lodge, and information about refurbished bikes for sale.
